I had a wild hare tonight and when I should have been doing other stuff, I decided instead to start turning this web site into more of a bliki.
This involves wiki like things (categories, etc) and also blog like things (listing in date order). Maybe one day it will involve comments, but that's a ways off.
Right now the main page is the only thing that makes use of this to present a "recently updated" view. Next will be categories everywhere, after that the nav will depend on what category a page is in (and won't that be exciting to write!).
Here's what I've figured out so far:
First of all, my current strategy was to generate HTML using a variety of techniques and then my site tools (e.g. siteindex) work on that HTML. I like this because I can use whatever tool is best to generate the page. However, I don't think that's going to work because of the whole category thing. I think I need much more wiki like stucture.
I think each document needs the following metadata:
For a while I was grabbing that last item from my source control system (to put in my RSS feed). However, I don't think that works, mainly because you can't get history until after you've committed and by that time it's too late (at leat to generate the site before it goes into the SCM system.)
