Isshin Ryu

The History

Isshin-Ryu is an hard Okanawian style of karate founded in 1953 by Tatsuo Shimabuku.

It is derived from Shorin-Ryu and Gojo-Ryu.

The Practice

Isshin-Ryu is a very ecletic style. Practice of classical Isshin-Ryu involves practicing forms and sparring (kumite). Most Isshin-Ryu schools also practice other things, such as Judo, grapling, boken or what-have-you.

The Forms

This page lists the forms that I have at least part of. I'll hopefully fill out the moves (partly so I don't forget them ;).

Check out http://www.isshinryu.com/kata.htm in the mean time. It seems to have a listing of many of the Isshin-Ryu forms.

http://krrichardson.freeservers.com/isshinryu/kata.html also seems to have some interesting info.

Pre-Kata

Most of the pre-kata are specific to my dojo, at least as far as their Isshin-Ryu practice is concerned.
