Deweys Standard Computer Setup


This is my standard setup for a computer on which I'm working:

(This is on the web so I can get to it from fresh machines that haven't gone through at least step 5.)

Basic Software

  1. Stuff cygwin complete
  2. NT Emacs
  3. Check out my home directory from subversion
  4. remap control/caps lock if windows
  5. Firefox
  6. Thunderbird
  7. Trillian Pro
  8. Logitech keyboard drivers (and map keys)
  9. Palm Desktop
  10. SplashID desktop
  11. Java
  12. Various Java tools (need to find some way to make this better)
  13. Sunrise desktop (a back rev version -- 0.37?)

Firefox Extensions

  1. Spoofstick
  2. Extension Uninstaller

Currently under evaluation

  1. Hit-a-Hint
  2. Target Alert
  3. Greasemonkey (with Paul Graham Footnote Hack . Also see their wiki )

Thunderbird Extensions

  1. Enigmail gpg interface

Trillian Extensions

Cygwin changes

  1. Change HOME to c:/home/dewey
  2. Make an "RXVT" shell icon
  3. change the drive mount point to be / with mount -c /

On Windows XP

  1. Uninstall WinZip if some helpful soul installed it.

Various Java tools

  1. java 1.4
  2. java 1.5
  3. ant
  4. junit
